How can I check if SharePoint is installed on my Server?

If you are curious to find out if Share Point is installed on your Server, there are a couple of ways to do that.

Method 1:

One way to find if SharePoint is installed is to go to the following path on your Server and check if you have a folder named Template.

C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\web server extensions\\12

If you have the TEMPLATE folder then you have SharePoint ver 12 installed, else you do not have it installed.

Also if you have the following folder, ie. instead of the folder 12 if you have 60, then you have older version of Share point installed. (ver 6)

C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\Microsoft Shared\\web server extensions\\60

Method 2:

The other method to check of SharePoint is installed on your server is to check the Registry.

Go to the Registry using Regedit and go to the following node.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Shared Tools\\Web Server Extensions\\12.0]

And you should see the value for SharePoint as Installed. That means SharePoint (ver 12 ) is installed.

Instead of 12 if you see 6.0 as this

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Shared Tools\\Web Server Extensions\\6.0]

And you see the value for SharePoint as Installed. That means SharePoint (ver 6.0 ) is installed.

Note: Be careful when you are dealing with Regedit, any unwanted changes can destabilize your system
