How to Enable or Disable Cookies in Internet Explorer

Cookies play an important role to enhance your browsing experience. Cookies help websites to remember your custom settings, your previous information on a site you are re-visiting. So for sure cookies make your browsing experience better and quicker. But at times cookies can also be a loop hole in browser security and it can be used to hack into your system. So it is always a good idea to keep a balanced check on cookies that you allow and don’t allow.

Here I am going to explain how you can enable or disable cookies in your Internet Explorer. This applies to Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7) and Internet Explorer 8 (IE8).

There are many ways you can control the cookies in your Internet Explorer.

1.       You can block or allow all cookies with no restrictions

2.       You can choose to allow or block cookies of a specific type

3.       You can choose to allow or block cookies only from specific sites

 

Block or Allow All  Cookies

Here are the steps to block or allow all Cookies in Internet Explorer

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer.

Step 2: Click on the Tools Menu Item in Internet Explorer and Select Internet Options

Step 3: Click on the Privacy Tab

Step 4: Under the Setting Section, Move the slider up or down. Moving all the way up will block all cookies and moving all the way down will allow all cookies.

 

 

Allow or block cookies of a specific type

 

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer.

Step 2: Click on the Tools Menu Item in Internet Explorer and Select Internet Options

Step 3: Click on the Privacy Tab

Step 4: Under the Setting Section, Move the slider up or down.  As you move up or down you will see a description of cookies that are allowed or blocked. You can choose as you want based on the specific types you want to block or allow

 

 

Allow or block cookies only from specific sites

 

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer.

Step 2: Click on the Tools Menu Item in Internet Explorer and Select Internet Options

Step 3: Click on the Privacy Tab

Step 4: Under the Setting Section, Make sure the slider is somewhere in the middle so that you have not blocked or allowed all cookies.

Step 5: Click on the Sites Button and it should bring the following window.

Step 6: Add the website address you want to allow or block in the Address of website field and click on the Block or Allow button. Repeat it for all the websites you want to allow or block.

Step 7: Click OK

Step 8: Move the slider back to the original position where it was before you changed in Step 4
