How to Edit a Row in SQL Server 2008, 2012 using Management Studio?

I see that there is an option to Edit the Top 200 rows in a Table, but how can I edit a particular row that I need.

Solution:

This is a common requirement to be able to edit any particular row and not just the top 200 rows which is provided by default in SQL Server 2008, 2012 and forward.

What you need to do is.

  1. In SQL Management Studio, Right-click on the Table and click on Edit Top 200 Rows. This should display the two 200 rows in a grid. (Refer Screenshot below)

  1. Next Goto the SQL icon on the Toolbar and Click to be able to see the SQL Script.  (Refer Screenshot below)

  2. Now you can edit the SQL Script to display the rows that you need.

For eg. Remove the TOP(200)  and add the Where condition to filter down to the rows you need and now you can edit the rows in the grid panel below. (Refer Screenshot below)
